The Baixo Sabor hydroelectric is a fundamental component to the Portuguese national electricity sector, due to its location in the Upper Douro River and its characteristics, with a large storage capacity (630x106 m³), reversible units and an installed capacity of 172MW.

DAM
The upstream dam consists of a double curvature arch with a height of 123m and a length of 505m, divided into blocks through 32 contraction joints with around 15.7m each.

WATER INTAKE
Since it is a reversible dam, the water intake of the hydraulic circuits function as restitution in pumping operations situations. Each water intake consists of an opening with a rectangular cross-section, which connects to a tower intended to the shelter and maneuver of the hydromechanical equipment, with a height around 38m.

RESTITUTION
The restitution structures of the turbocharged flow works like pumping water intake. The restitution is formed by two openings that makes the transition between the circular section of the restoration tunnel and the spillway crest.

CENTRAL AND SUBSTATION
The Central is formed by two groups, in independent wells, covered by a building for the discharge, assembly, movement of the equipment and also the facilities of the central control. Adjacent to the building and on the side of the slope is the Substation. The wells of the groups have a height around 79m and a cross-section with an inner diameter of 11.50m.
